I Just Got Ranked #26 in Substack's 'Rising in Philosophy'!✊🏿
The Importance of Black Writers of History & Philosophy
I’m in the lab just weeks from releasing my 6th book (title and book cover to be revealed later this month), and this pops up on my phone: I got ranked 26th in Substack’s Rising writers in Philosophy!! This is truly both a surprise and humbling, one because I didn't even know there was a list!
I joined Substack a few months ago debuting ‘Culture, Currency & Consciousness’ and have since felt a sense of community on—of all things—a social media platform where I don’t feel like I’m *shadow banned.
As I perused the others on this list, a feeling of acceptance came over me. Unlike facebook, instagram, and X, Substack is a place for people who like to read! I don’t know what committee is behind the choosing, but this serves as a timely boost of confidence as I continue working on the next four books I’ll be releasing in the next year!
Since high school I’ve always had a passion to speak about things that affect people. Seeded conversations with my college professor Rob Penny at the University of Pittsburgh and historian Jegna Anthony Browder, moved me to pick up a pad and pen. I knew back then I had a few things to say, little did I know I’d have 35 years worth—and I’m just getting started!
Throughout these years my opinions and philosophies molded into (what I hope) something that makes you consider a different perspective. As an Afrikan-centered Scribe (writer), I both root and write for Black people unconditionally because Our-story needs to be studied, preserved, and cultivated for an ensuing generation that are quickly losing interest in the valued experience of actually holding (and reading) a book!
Instead, their source of information comes in social media bite-sized videoclips and text snippets. At this pace, there will be no one that writes or speaks of the Black experience from a philosophical and historical view in the next decade.
This prompted me to come up with the following acronym:
R - Restore
E - Education (of the)
A - Afrikan
D - Diaspora
Simply put, if we don’t write—and just as important, without people like you who read, Our-story will be forgotten.
I thank you for continuing this journalist journey with me, and BIGGUP Substack! It truly is an honor to be recognized.
